Land of Confusion

Well things are pretty good. Im working Mon-Thurs now so its been nice having three day weekends on a regular basis. Last weekend for Mother's Day we went out to Wainiae and spent the day at the beach. It was amazing. The waves were high so the boys got to boogie board and Amanda and myself got to float up and down in the water as the waves rolled in. The day went great and the people were amazing and they all wished Amanda a Happy Mother's Day. This being said Wainiae is known as being one if the worst places on the island but everytime we go out there its friendly. Now imagine the same day at Waikiki, you would get nothing but rude snobbish people. From seeing it through my Aunt's rentals the vacationers really trash the island as the rentals are abused constantly. As I live here longer I really see how segregated the island really is. We live in the Kalihi Valley which at one time was a huge Portuguese area, but is now primarily Filipino. We live in Upper Kalihi which is a decent area, but if you go four miles down the road by the docks it is gang ridden and poverty stricken. Our neighbors are overall cool, but we are definitely viewed as outsiders. In a way I dont really give a shit, but what bothers me is that my kids are treated differently at school, and occasionally called Hoalie (whitey). Ive held Luca and Clayton back thus far, but at some point the "hounds" will be released. Anyways, you got North Shore that is absolutely beautiful but theres really no jobs and the commute would be nasty. The people out in North Shore are really nice and overall is totally beautiful. There is this restaurant named Jameson's and its right across the street from the beach and they serve really kick ass food, and the drinks are great as well. Im not gonna explain the whole island right now, but like I have said a million times over it's beautiful. The weather is unreal. Its always in the 80's during the day and depending where you are at on this rock you might even get daily rain. Dont really know how I feel right now. I could go back to Redding and start all over there again, or try to make it work here....time will tell.
